The Comeback Comes Back!

T Lo cherishes Valerie.

This is the best news we've heard all week. The Sundance Channel is showing episodes of The Comeback starting tonight!
"New York, NY (November 8, 2010) – Sundance Channel announced today it has acquired basic cable rights to THE COMEBACK, the critically acclaimed HBO original series starring Lisa Kudrow. Created by Kudrow and SEX AND THE CITY creator Michael Patrick King, THE COMEBACK will make its basic cable premiere on Sundance Channel, Tuesday, November 23rd at 10PM (ET) and will air regularly on Tuesday nights.

The 13-episode series is shot in the style of a reality show (also called THE COMEBACK). The show-within-a-show follows sitcom actress Valerie (Kudrow) through her home life and her career resurgence. Kudrow was nominated for an Emmy® Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in the series."

It's such a little-seen show and it really deserves an audience. We don't know if there's any chance for new episodes (ohpleaseohplease!) but at least more people will get to see this unique, intelligent, funny, and heartbreaking series. Lisa Kudrow is a comic genius. That compliment gets thrown around a lot, but trust us when we say we mean it. As wonderful as she was on Friends, her work here as washed-up sitcom actress Valerie Cherish is simply miles ahead of anything she'd done before. There were scenes and moments we played over and over again just to watch the subtle storm of emotions that washes over her face every time she faces a new humiliation. And if her performance isn't enough to sell it on you, it contains some of the smartest, wickedly funny writing on the topics of celebrity, sitcoms, and reality television you'll ever see. We have a full plate of TV tonight with Glee and The Fashion Show, and if you're a good minion, so do you, but reserve some space on the DVR for this little-seen gem. We admit, we have entirely selfish reasons for promoting it: we want as many people as possible to see it and scream for a new season. "I don't need to see that!" never got the chance to become the catchphrase it should have and that's a tragedy. We won't be happy until "Aunt Sassy" costumes become all the rage among gay men every Halloween.
